Supreme consciousness and reality of the entire universe

In Saiva philosophy of Kashmir "Pūrṇā", "Bhairava” or "Anuttara” is the supreme consciousness and reality of the entire universe. Bhairava, being pūrnā- full in every respect, protects this whole world bharanāta (bh); he is present in every object ramanāt (ra) and he has digested this whole universe in himself vamanāt (va). 'Srsti' means emanation not creation. Saṁhāra' means reabsorbation not destruction. All these are the unfoldment of the various energies of Lord signifying his “pūrṇatā”- fullness.

O Dear! one who is free from three types of impurities, who is beyond all Adhvā (pathways), who is devoid of Māyā and attachment and thus after attaining complete purity he achieves the supreme peace which is everlasting, Devi! that everlasting omnipotent lord is called by the name of 'Paripurna-Parmātma'.

 ⁃ Svacchanda Tantra

Even a little space in the world is the form of fullness of the creator, insurmountable and unimaginable. In the process of thirty six elements from Sivatattva to Prithivi (earth), all elements exist in each tattva. Every particle of this world is the form of fullness- Pūrnatā.

Just his fullness is evident in this whole cosmos similarly in each and every physical form also. It is why God is named as omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent, because from the cosmos to the minutest atom everything is covered by his fullness.

Anuttara is that supreme state which is attainable without any means i.e. you have to do nothing to achieve it and it is rested in the energy of bliss.

Whosoever has tasted the taste of this state even in negligible way for him all types of meditation appear as venomous i.e. distasteful and harmful.

I am alone in this world or in my home, this fear haunts one every time and he feels dejected. But I am "Aham", not other than him. This resolve makes one fearless because he is glorfied with his fullness.
 ⁃ Abhinavagupta

He who without hesitation views that world only as your form, is eternally joyful. Where lies fear then?

Harih (Lord) is universe, universe is Harih, so how can an individual be other than Harih? One who has developed this sort of thinking, he alone attains the state of super consciousness and this type of individual, crosses this fearful worldly ocean without any difficulty. Knower of this truth of fullness is the real knower of Siva Tattva.

O dear one ! externally or internally where where our mind goes, there there is the state of fullness. So by going here and there, let it go, our mind at last will rest at fullness.

Pūrṇatā or Anuttara is the highest transcendental reality which is established everywhere. It is this śūnya which contains in itself everything and which materialises itself in the concrete form of this physical and subtle universe.
 ⁃ Svacchanda Tantrā

This Pūrṇatā is free from all limiting conditions, absolutely free from an objective context. It absolute liberty and autonomy of consciousness.

Mantra pushpanjali

The mantra pushpanjali given here is from the Vedas (Vedokta). This means that they have to be recited in a specific manner. It is advisable to learn the correct pronunciation of these mantras from the learned people and practice well before attempting to recite these mantras. The reason behind this being, if the mantras are recited incorrectly there is a possibility of experiencing distress.

Mantras to boost Meditation

1. “Aham Prema” (ah-hem-pree-mah)
This mantra translates to “I am Divine Love,” a simple mantra to chant 108 times. “Aham Prema” helps us connect to the divine love we all have within. Affirming that we are pure love creates a purifying and calming effect on our mind, body, and soul. This mantra is a wonderful way to start your day, or to calm yourself down in any stressful situation.

2. “Aum Gum Shreem Maha Lakshmiyei Namaha” (ohm-guum-shreem-mah-ha-lok-shmee-yay-na-mah-ha)

Ganesh is known as the remover of all obstacles. This mantra is asking Lord Ganesh for help in removing obstacles around finding your life purpose. Reciting it for a full meditation also increases the flow of abundance.

“Aum” or “OM” is pure force – the sound of the Universe. “Gum” is the removal of obstacles, “Shreem” is the sound of abundance, “Maha” is the increase of energy, “Lakshmiyei” represents life purpose, and “Namaha” represents completion and praise. Use this mantra regularly to help align your path with your purpose and to bring greater abundance and prosperity into your life.

3. “Om Mani Padme Hum” (ohm-mah-nee-pahd-may-huum)

“Om Mani Padme Hum” is a commonly used mantra. It is fairly simple to recite, and very effective. This mantra connects with the blessings of Chenrezig, the embodiment of compassion. When we picture ourselves as the embodiment of compassion, we become more relaxed and we gradually reduce the fixation of our personal and physical being.

This energy allows us to become better able to expand our love and kindness towards our self and others. The practice of compassion creates greater fulfillment in our lives and helps bring ourselves closer to enlightenment.

How to Begin Your Mantra Meditation
Consistency always wins. Choose a time that works best for you, morning and night, and set aside about 15-20 minutes. “Aham Prema” may only need 5-10 minutes. Create a sacred space for yourself, be it in a specific chair, on your bed, or in your car before you leave the driveway.

Light a candle, hold an amethyst crystal, smell your favorite essential oil. Do whatever it takes for you to feel safe, relaxed and loved.

Mala beads are a great mantra meditation tool. In order to focus on the pronunciation of the mantra, which is very important, use a mala necklace as a way to keep count of repetitions. This creates a calm and more precise practice.

Start by draping the mala necklace between your middle and ring finger. Using your thumb to hold it in place, find the bead next to the guru (usually a tassel, crystal, charm, or bigger bead).

Begin your mantra meditation by focusing on your intention, goal or desire. Next, recite your mantra on the first bead. Then, use your thumb and middle finger to move to the next bead, recite your mantra again and continue for 108 repetitions, or beads. Once you have completed 108 repetitions, show gratitude to the Guru bead on your mala. Be thankful for your meditation practice and be open to the good energy coming your way.

Love always change?

Delhi, India,
5th November, 1998

Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change

Day 53 - Love (Continued)

Question - Gurudev, must love always change?

Gurudev Sri Sri - Love is your very nature. What is your nature cannot change. But the expression of love changes. Because love is your nature, you cannot but love. A mother has total love for her child. Sometimes she feeds the child, sometimes she is strict with the child. "Come on, sit and write".

She does this out of love, and these are all different modes of love. So the expression of love changes. But love itself does not change, because love is your nature. When someone expresses love to you, what do you do?
- You do not know how to respond.
- You feel obliged and bound.
- You shrink or shy away.
- You feel foolish and awkward.
- You try to reciprocate even though it is not genuine.
- You doubt the love expressed and you doubt your own worthiness.
- You are afraid of losing respect because love does not allow distance and respect tends to keep a distance.
- Your ego hardens and does not allow you to receive and reciprocate.

The ability to receive genuine love comes with the ability to give love. The more you are centered and know by experience that you love, the more you feel at home with any amount of love being expressed in any manner, for deep inside, you know love is not an emotion. It is your very existence. Joy is love for what is. Sorrow is love for what is not. You feel love for someone and they do not accept it. What do you do?
- Get frustrated.
- Turn the love into hatred and wish for revenge.
- Again and again remind them how much you love them and how little they love you.
- Become fussy and cranky.
- Throw tantrums.
- Feel humiliated and try to protect your respect.
- Resolve never to love again.
- Feel hurt and mistreated.
- Try to be aloof and indifferent.
But you have seen that none of these work, they only make the
situation worse. What is the way out of this ? How do you maintain your lovingness?
- Have patience and change your expression of love.
- Be centered and limit your expression of love. Sometimes expressing too much love puts people off.
- Take it for granted that they love you too and just accept their style of expression. Like a mother with three kids -
- No one child talks, one child does not talk, one child throws tantrums - her love for each child is constant regardless of their behaviour.
- Genuinely acknowledge whatever love they have for you. This will turn your demand into gratefulness and the more grateful you are in life, the more love comes your way.
- Know that hurt is part of love and take responsibility for it. Realise that when you move away from your center, you will get hurt and the nature of worldliness is misery.

Inspires and brings confidence.

Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change

Day 54 - Love (Continued)

An example inspires and brings confidence in the application of
knowledge, and the visible sign of it is an undying smile. The self knows neither sorrow nor death, yet in it flow all the relative events. It is easy to be detached when you are not in love.

Being in utter love and yet undisturbed, caring yet not worried, persistent yet not
perturbed, are all the obvious signs of the self shining through. Let love be. Do not give it a name. When you give love a name it becomes a relationship, and relationships restrict love.

There is love between you and me. Just let it be. If you give love a name, such as brother, sister, mother, father, Guru - you are making it into a relationship. Relationship restricts love. What is your relationship to yourself?

Are you your wife, brother, husband, Guru? Let love be. Do not give it a name. When love glows, it is bliss. When it flows, it is compassion. When it blows, it is anger. When it ferments, it is jealousy. When it is all 'no's', it is hatred. When it acts, it is perfection. When love knows, it is me. With whom do you feel really comfortable and at ease?

You feel comfortable with someone who does not question your love, someone who takes for granted that you love them. If someone doubts your love and you constantly have to prove it. This becomes a heavy load on your head. They start questioning you and demanding explanations for all your actions. Explaining
everything you do is a burden.

Your nature is to shed the burden, so because you do not feel comfortable. When you question the reason behind an action, you are asking for justice for yourself and you create a distance. Your whole intention is to come close, but by asking for justice you create a distance.

When someone asks for an explanation, they are speaking from doership and are imposing that doership on you. This brings discomfort. If someone is just there with you, a part of you, they do not question you. They are like your arm. There is a closeness and unity that goes beyond all demands and questions.

Neither demand an explanation nor give an explanation. You are the eternal witness. You are as mucha witness to your own actions as you are to someone else’s actions.

Who has renounced can love

Montreal Ashram, Quebec, Canada,
9th July, 1997

Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change

Day 55 - Love (Continued)

Only who has renounced can love. To the degree you have renounced, to that degree will you have the ability to love. Often people think those who renounce cannot love, and those who love cannot renounce. This is because renunciates do not seem to be in love, and so-called lovers are possessive and needy.

True love is not possessive, it brings freedom, and renunciation is nothing but freedom. Only in freedom can love blossom fully. When you are in love you say, “I want nothing, I just want this”. Renunciation is, “I do not want anything. I am free”. In love there is no other need. Renunciation is having no need. Love and renunciation, although appearing to be opposites, are two sides of the same coin.

Question - Gurudev, does this mean the lover renounces his beloved?

Gurudev - You renounce the attachment, the possessiveness. Renunciation doesn’t diminish love, enhances it. Only renunciation can sustain love and joy. Without renunciation love turns into misery, possessiveness, jealousy and anger. Renunciation brings contentment and contentment sustains love.

Without renunciation one gets discontented, frustrated, sad, fearful, suspicious, analytical and the whole soap opera begins and this is what we find in society don’t we? So-called renunciate have run away from life frustrated and disappointed. Real renunciation is born out of knowledge and wisdom, knowledge of life in the background of time and space and in the context of this magnanimous universe.

You have to rejoice in the means. You have to love the means. Love is the goal but the means must also be lovable. Love springs forth when there is no effort, when all activities are shunned. Love is your nature. When love finds an expression, you often become ensnared get caught up in the object.

Your sight is caught outside. To return to your nature, you need insight. Pain is the first insight. It takes you away from the object and turns you towards your body and mind. Energy is the second insight. A bolt of energy brings you back to your self.

Divine love is the third insight. A glimpse of Divine love makes you complete and overrules all relative pleasures. Ecstasy is the fourth insight. An elevation of consciousness and partial awareness of the physical reality around you is ecstasy. Non dual awareness, that everything is made up of one and only one, is the fifth insight.

Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change

Day 51 - Love

I chant the name of my beloved in every breath. The beloved is
faultless, perfect. But being in love I have lost my reputation. When there is so much love, you take total responsibility for any misunderstanding. For a moment you may express dismay on the surface but when you do not feel that dismay in your heart, you
arrive at a perfect understanding.

You are in a state where all problems and all differences slide away and only love shines through. Usually we are stuck in our differences because we have lost sight of ourselves. In the name of love we try to manipulate and control the other person. It is natural that when we love someone, we want them to be perfect.

You can never see the holes in the ground from the top of a hill. From an airplane the earth looks so smooth. So also from a state of elevated consciousness, you do not see the pitfalls in others. But if
you come to the ground you always see the holes. When you want to fill the holes, you have to see them.

You cannot build a home being airborne. You cannot till the land without looking at the holes, filling them, removing the pebbles. That is why when you love someone, you find faults in them but finding faults destroys love and instead of helping to fill the holes, we run away. When you love someone and see their faults, stay with them and help them fill the holes. This is wisdom.

Why do you love someone? Is it because of their qualities or
because of a sense of kinship or intimacy? You can love someone for their qualities and not feel a sense of kinship. This type of love gives rise to competition and jealousy. Such is not the case when love arises out of kinship.

If you love someone for their qualities, when the qualities change or you get accustomed to their qualities, your love also changes. However, if you love someone out of kinship, because they belong to you, then that love remains for lifetimes.

People say, “I love God because He is great”. What if God is found to be ordinary, just one of us? Then your love and God would collapse. If you love God because He is yours, then however God is, whether. He creates or destroys, you still love Him. The love of kinship is like love for yourself.

Question - Why do so many people have no love for themselves?

Gurudev - No. It is just the opposite. They love themselves so much that they want better qualities and a better appearance for themselves. This love of qualities makes them hard on themselves.

That love is not stable

Bangalore Ashram, India,
12th February 1999

Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change

Day 52 - Love (Continued)

If love is based on the qualities of a person, that love is not stable. After some time the qualities change and the love becomes shaky. Loving someone because of their greatness or uniqueness is third rate love. Loving someone because they belong to you, great or otherwise, is unconditional love.

Knowledge, sadhana, seva and satsang, spiritual practice, service and coming together in celebration help to bring about a sense of belonging. When love springs from a sense of belongingness, then the actions and qualities do not overshadow the love. Neither qualities nor actions can be perfect all the time. Only love and a feeling of kinship can be perfect.

Here are the signs of love. When you love someone you see nothing wrong with them. Even if you see a fault in them you justify it in some way “Everyone does that, it is normal”. You think you have not done enough for them and the more you do, the more you want to do for them. They are always in your mind. Ordinary things become extraordinary.

A baby winking at its grandmother becomes an extraordinary event. You want them to be yours exclusively. You get hurt even over small things. When you love someone, you want to see them always happy and you want them to have the best. You wish someone what they don’t have, right?

When you say, “Best wishes”, you imply that they are not best. Now, I tell you, now is the best. If you realise this, tomorrow can only be here are some who long for change. Feeling that every thing is stagnant in their lives, they want to change partners, careers, dwellings. There are some who are afraid of change. They feel security in the way they are.

There are some who see change, but do not acknowledge it out of fear. There are some who do not notice change at all. There are
others who do not think there is anything to change. There are some who realise that everything is changing, yet see there is something that is non changing. Those who recognise the non changing amidst the change are the wisest of all.

Compassion

Montreal Ashram, Quebec, Canada

Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change

Day 48 - Compassion

There are 2 types of compassion. One is the compassion of the wise,
one is that of the ignorant. An ignorant person’s compassion is towards the fruit of an action to alleviate the sickness or suffering that he witnesses but a wise person’s compassion is toward the lack of knowledge to remedy the underlying reason for sickness or suffering.

Compassion for suffering shows ignorance. Suffering comes because of karma and if you believe in karma, where is compassion? You reap the fruit of your actions. If a judge has compassion for offenders, then the jails will be empty. But are judges cruel to offenders? No.

The judge’s compassion is for the lack of knowledge he sees, not for the suffering of the criminals. It is the criminal’s karma. Often people think compassion is an act, an action. Know that compassion is your very nature. Then you will see that karma and compassion are not contradictory but rather complement one another.

Suppose two people come to a hospital. One is suffering from starvation, the other is ill from overeating. What type of compassion should the doctor have toward each of them? This is a riddle for you to solve.

Karmas

Bangalore Ashram, India
15th September 1999

Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change

Day 49 - Karmas

Some karma can be changed and some cannot. When you prepare a dessert, if sugar or ghee is too little, you can add more. If some other ingredient is too much, it can all be adjusted and repaired. But
once it is cooked, it cannot be reversed.

Milk can become sweet yogurt or sour yogurt, and sour yogurt can be sweetened but neither can be reversed back to milk. Sanchita karma can be changed and adjusted by Spiritual practices. Prarabdha karma cannot be changed.

Satsang burns the seed of all negative karmas before they are given a chance to sprout. Strange are the ways of karma. The more you understand it, the more amazed you become. Karma brings people together and separates them.

It causes some to be weak and some to be strong. It makes some rich and some poor. All the struggles in the world, whatever they may be, are the bondage of karma. It cuts across all logic and reasoning. This understanding lifts you and keeps you from getting stuck in events or personalities and helps you in your journey to the self.

Question - So a thief can say it is my karma to steal?

Gurudev - Yes, and then the police have the karma to catch him, too. Only human life has the ability to be free from karma and only a few thousand aim to be free from it. Performing actions cannot eliminate karma. Only through grace can the bondage of karma be burnt.

Mercy

Bangalore Ashram, India
24th April, 1996

Chapter 1 - The You That You Want To Change

Day 50 - Mercy

Mercy indicates lack of intimacy, a distance, a lack of belonging. You do not have mercy on your loved ones. You do not hear parents say, “I have mercy on my children”. You have mercy on those whom
you think are not yours. Mercy indicates anger, judgment and
authority.

When you ask for mercy, you are self centered. You want to be excused from the law of cause and effect. It indicates lack of courage and valor. At times, mercy is an impediment to growth. Mercy, of course, brings some comfort and relief, but it can impair any transformation.

If the leaves were to ask for mercy from falling, they would not be transformed and then what would happen to the tree? Two of our devotees, high on bliss, did not stop at a stop sign, so the police mercilessly gave them a ticket. Victoria said, “Thank you,” but the police woman told her to go to court and beg for mercy.

You only ask for mercy if you think that God is angry and judging you. This is the small mind superimposing its nature on the Divine mind. The Divine is all knowing and all loving, there is no chance for mercy. When you know and trust the process of creation, you will simply rejoice. Do you know I have no mercy? When there is intimacy, there is no place for mercy.

SEVA BLESSINGS

When you do seva don't think you are doing a favor for somebody. You have done the seva and it has rewarded you immediately. Its reward is for sure and is always more than your doing. Your expectation of reward for the seva turns the seva into labor. If you think you have done a lot, you will do very little; if you see you have done a little, then you will do more. Seva is even when you don't see an immediate reward there is no complaint; labor is even after an immediate reward, there will be complaints. Be grateful for any opportunity to do the seva.

UNKNOWN KNOWLEDGE

Do you recall this from last week's Knowledge sheet?
"P.S. Next week everyone write a knowledge sheet with your news flash and send it with your name on it. Fax or mail it to your national center."

It seems that Guruji was serious. He was asked last night about the missing Knowledge and He said that He was looking forward to reading other people's Knowledge sheets rather than sending out one. He said that people read the Knowledge and forget it so He wants people to write their own this time.

BE LOVED

You don't need to worry to maintain knowledge. When knowledge is lodged in you as wisdom, it will never leave you. Wisdom lodges itself in your heart. Make the Divine your Valentine (your sweet Beloved). This is the last thing to do and the first thing to do. Keep your heart in a safe place; it is too delicate. Events, small things make strong impressions on it. And you cannot find a better place than the Divine to keep your heart safe and your mind sane. When you keep your heart in the Divine, the moving time, the passing events, will not be able to touch it, will not create a scar. A precious stone needs a setting around it, gold or silver, to hold it and to wear it; so wisdom and knowledge are that setting around the heart which will hold it in the Divine.

See the Divine in your Valentine and make the Divinity your Valentine (your sweet beloved). Just BE. . .and know that you are LOVED... That is BELOVED.

Guru bina gati nahin

*Guru bina gati nahin*

There can be no progress without the Guru. Let us say you have a lot of water lying on the floor. It will take a lot of time for it to evaporate and disappear, but if you take a wiper and spread the water out on the floor then it will easily evaporate. Isn't it? Similarly on your own no matter how much you try to dissolve your karmas, you infact create more karmas. But if you are in the presence of a gyani, then no matter what they are doing, yoga, knowledge or may be they are in silence, all your karmas start disappearing and evaporating. That is why it is said “Guru Bina Gati Nahin”.

PADMANABHA -- THE LOTUS NAVEL

Different organs of our body are governed by different devas. The solar plexus is connected with the sun, that's why it is called "solar" plexus. When the first rays of the sun fall on the solar plexus, it is very good for your body. Doing Surya Namaskar ("sun salutation") yoga asana in the early morning is very good.

The solar plexus has a profound impact on the central nervous system, optic nerves, stomach, and what we usually call "gut feeling." It is the second brain in your body. Usually the solar plexus is slightly bigger than an almond. Studies have shown that with the practice of yoga, meditation, and Sudarshan Kriya, the solar plexus can become as a large as the size of the palm. Then it performs better. It balances the body functions. When the solar plexus expands, the intuitive mind works better. The mind becomes clear and focussed. When the solar plexus contracts, one feels horrible, sad, depressed, and all the negative feelings come.
Krishna was called Padmanabha, meaning "whose navel is the size of a lotus flower." If you become Padmanabha, you become absolutely creative. Brahma, the Creator, is born out of a blossomed solar plexus.
These days, the solar plexus remains small, but the tummy keeps getting bigger.

ACCEPT THE WORLD AT ITS WORST

Suppose the worst of the world is given to you; what would you do with it now? You cannot complain if you get the worst. You can only complain if you don't get the worst. If the world is at its worst, then it can only get better and you are here to make it better.
Jim: When things are at their very worst, then there is only time and space. (Laughter)
Patty: When you see that life is suffering then you go within.
Paula: It is like running out of breath and you have to inhale.
What happens when you have to do it all by yourself -- no one comes to help? You do everything by yourself?
There are three options:
1. Frustration and complaining.
2. Take credit that you did it by yourself -- thank others for not helping so that you could take all the credit. (Laughter)
3. Be grateful, pray deeply, and know that you get all the energy needed to do it all alone. There is only one doer.

INDIGESTION OF KNOWLEDGE

Indigestion of knowledge leads to development of a false ego which has no cure. Knowledge must be digested properly.
Indigestion of knowledge leads to:
1. False ego
2. Disinterestedness; taking for granted; lack of awareness
3. Familiarity without understanding, without depth -- flakiness
4. Tendency to preach
5. "Heart" burn
6. Using knowledge for their own small ends
7. Adamancy
Your inability to do something (break a habit) can cause a pinch; when you are deeply pained by something, then that will rid you of that habit. If you are pained by your shortcomings, then you are sadhak. Pain takes you out of addiction.
If you are in love with the divine, then you can digest the knowledge. Love is the appetizer -- seva is the exercise -- without love and seva, knowledge becomes indigestible. So everyone list the loving seva you have done for the world.
Marielle: If love is the appetizer, what is the main course?
Guruji: Knowledge
Daniel: What is dessert?
Guruji: MYSELF!! (Laughter)

My First Encounter With Gurudev At The Part 2 Program In Houston

I signed up for part 2 after my friend encouraged me to do so. Additionally, with Gurudev visiting Houston, I was curious to find out who this person was that had such a significant influence on people’s lives. The Part 2 program in Houston in October 2008 was nothing short of amazing.

https://srisristories.com/my-first-encounter-with-gurudev-at-the-part-2-program-in-houston/

Gurudev came in three times, gave discourses, conducted meditation, and even led Sports Yoga! I was in silence, standing by, when he was walking out after the discourse. I wanted to see him up close and take a detailed look at him. As he passed by, he looked at me and asked, “What is your name?” I couldn’t explain what went through my mind. It was a great experience, and I was totally transfixed, but I thoroughly enjoyed his presence and blurted out my full name, forgetting that I was supposed to be in silence. That moment, that question from him, made so many changes in me. I was taken aback by his knowledge and his spontaneous responses to questions. I look forward to having more interactions with him. Jai Guru Dev.

The Divine Abode

Walking up the interlocked concrete roads, uphill, from the parking lot and past the divine stores, I am out of breath when I finally reach this sacred place. Grateful for a spot to sit and close my eyes, I take a moment to catch my breath as the cool breeze offers comfort to my wet back and shoulders. It has been quite a while since I last made eye contact with Gurudev, and I wait patiently, sometimes meditating with my eyes closed before opening them in anticipation of his arrival.

And finally, Gurudev arrives, holding a lotus in his right hand and dressed in full white, his hair waving rhythmically in the breeze. I kneel and wait for him to approach. As he draws nearer, I look up to him and he acknowledges me with raised eyebrows, which then turn into a smile. He pats my head with the lotus and moves on, the white angavastram caressing my face. On another day, after playing cricket with my new bat that cost only Rs. 3, I take my bat proudly and head home. Running on the rough hard soil of the pitch, sweating all over, a few runs scored, and then it’s my turn to bowl and field. As the sun begins to set on the western horizon, I know it’s time to go home. Once home, I wash my face and legs randomly, and as I enter the kitchen, my mother scans me and takes the end of her saree to wipe the sweat and water from my face. Even though I resist, the touch of her cotton saree across my face gives me comfort and reminds me of her unconditional love for me. As Gurudev walks away, the white sheet of cloth reminds me of my mother’s love, and then he turns back and smiles at me, confirming and acknowledging that he too loves and cares for me in the same way. Overwhelmed with gratitude and happiness, tears roll down my eyes as I realize that Gurudev will always be there for me, and will love me regardless of my mistakes. I bow down my head, close my eyes and sit silently until the emotions pass.

I stumbled upon a discourse by Sri Sri, without knowing who he was. I saw the bearded man on the stage distributing prasadam and everyone was happy. I too was drawn into the positive energy and decided to take his blessings before leaving. Years later, I found myself in the ashram doing the Part 1 course, followed by Part 2, DSN, and Sahaj. I couldn’t believe that Gurudev had transformed me from an atheist to a priest. I am still awed by the power that he exudes with just a glance. How did it all happen? Who knows? But I am grateful to have such a wonderful master, and it’s his grace that keeps me going. I love my master because he pulled me towards him when I knew nothing about him. Jai Guru Dev.

Walking With Gurudev

Once in June 2014, as I walked from my room to the amphitheater for the evening Satang at the Art of Living Bangalore ashram, I stopped on the way as I noticed Gurudev’s car parked outside a hall which was under construction. Two people were waiting for him outside. I peeped in to take a look, there he was, small in height as compared to the tall men he was surrounded with, but towering above them all in demeanor. After a rather unhappy and emotionally turbulent day, I did not feel like going for Satsang. I just wanted to hide in my room and not bother anyone with the sadness and pain that I felt. But here I was, waiting for my Gurudev outside that hall. He was giving instructions for further construction of the hall. As he came out, a smile automatically came to my face and with folded hands, I just stood there looking at him. Once he was done with the inspection, he suddenly looked in my direction and gave a sweet smile and waved at me. I couldn’t utter a word. I continued to smile and stare at him. Then I thought he would just sit in his car and go for Satsang, as he usually does. He never ever walks down from that place to the amphitheater, due to the massive crowds that line up to greet him. But that day he decided to walk. “Ready for the chaos?” said my Master, turning around and laughing lovingly at us. He’s never been afraid for himself, for his own security. He just walks on with confidence! By that time, I was grinning and I was walking right behind him, following his footsteps to wherever he walked. There were only seven of us, so this could happen easily. After a point, I realized that I had come to walk right next to him. He was saying something to someone, but I never heard the words. I just looked at him silently. I felt that words were not needed at that moment. I was overwhelmed that Gurudev and I were walking together. He was walking down to the amphitheater silently, when some devotees turned around and finally took notice of his presence. “Oye” one devotee exclaimed.

Walking With Gurudev Originally published on https://srisristories.com/walking-with-gurudev/ | Sri Sri Stories

Many others turned around to see, equally surprised at seeing Gurudev walking down towards them. All of us walking with Gurudev burst out laughing at that devotee’s exclamation. Gurudev too, laughed along and gave the widest and most innocent grin. My gaze was fixed on him and I helped set aside the huge crowd that clamored around him. Being rather tiny and petite, I was lost amidst the crowd as Gurudev walked on. I didn’t struggle to go forward and meddle in the crowd. I was content. My heart was so full of love, as I watched Gurudev walk to his seat, smiling as ever. I can’t recall what bhajan played that moment to greet him for Satsang, but I can recall how good it made me feel. Then it struck me – HE KNOWS EVERYTHING! He knew that I would have pined in my loneliness, so he came to my rescue! The Divine worked in such mysterious ways. This was so much more than just a few beautiful moments spent with my Lord, it was a beautiful realization. His love was an instant healing balm on my self-inflicted wounds. As I sat down with the realization that I was being taken care of at all times, I felt tears of gratitude trickle down my face. This was Gurudev’s way of showing his love for me. When I had no expectations, he had given me the sweetest surprise. I felt so lucky to have him in my life and valued it beyond comprehension.

I dozed off during the Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya chanting, missing the moment when Gurudev walked in and the discourse started. Suddenly, I felt a tap on my right shoulder, and when I turned to look, there was no one there. I was wide awake, and I felt Gurudev’s piercing eyes staring right at me, saying, “Arjuna, keep me with you and fight the war.” All my misery dissolved in that very instant, and I realized that He had heard my prayers. Although I may have to attend to family priorities for a short spell of time, my seva continues till date, and I am grateful for the skill Gurudev has given me to manage both my home front and my path as a seeker. It is the ultimate blessing to be part of the divine vision and contribute my bit, with my husband walking alongside me. Thanks to the love and compassion of my Guru, I am stronger, steadier, and more balanced. It has been the ultimate blessing, next only to the joy of motherhood.
