Make meditation A Part Of Your Life

*8. Make meditation A Part Of Your Life*

The higher goals in life can only be realised through a few minutes of meditation and introspection. What is meditation? Mind without agitation is meditation. Mind in the present moment is meditation. Mind that has not hesitation, no anticipation is meditation.

Mind that has come back home, to the source, is meditation. Mind that becomes no mind is meditation. Deeper you are able to rest, dynamic you will be in activity. Even though deep rest and dynamic activity are opposite values, they are complementary. Before the body leaves you, you learn to leave everything. That is freedom. What are you looking for?

Are you looking for some great joy? You are joy. I will give you an example. Have you seen dogs biting bones? You know why they bite bones? Biting wounds their mouth. It's own blood comes out and the dog feels that the bone is very tasty. Poor dog spends the whole time chewing the bone but getting nothing out of it.

Any joy you experience in life is from the depth of your self, when you let go all that you hold on to and settle down being centered in that space. That is called meditation. Actually, meditation is not an act, it is the art of doing nothing. The rest in meditation is deeper than the deepest sleep that you can ever have because in meditation you transcend all desires.

Meditation is letting go of anger from the past and all the planning for the future. Meditation is accepting this moment and living every moment totally with depth. Just this understanding and a few days of continuous practice of meditation can change the quality of our life.

The best comparison of the three states of consciousness waking, sleeping and dreaming is with the nature. Nature sleeps, awakes and dreams. It happens in a magnificent scale in existence and it is happening in a different scale in the human body. Wakefulness and sleep are like sunrise and darkness.

Dream is like the twilight in between. And meditation is like the flight to the outer space, where there is no sunset, no sunrise, nothing. I am sure that deep within, every one of you feel that you have not grown, meaning you have not changed, not grown old.

This indicates the soul in you, the depth in you, the spirit in you doesn't change, doesn't grow old, it's not aging. The body is aging but something in you is not aging. Getting in touch with that something that doesn't age brings beauty in life. That is meditation.

Meditation and Mantras For Children’s Well-Being

Meditation and Mantras For Children’s Well-Being

Children have very impressionable minds, in order to shape them, we must expose them to factors that stimulate their minds in the correct way. Modern life is stressful for children. Apart from studies and extracurricular activities, life has also become competitive. The expectations on their tiny shoulders exist due to parents who are so results-focused that it can be hard for children to remain calm and relaxed.

The overstimulation of media, TV, games, and movies, can make it very difficult for children to focus. That’s one reason why so many compassionate parents are teaching kids mantras and, of course, teaching children to meditate. Though there are different types of meditation techniques, most of them starts with Mantras.

Meditation for Children
The Magnitude of stress the kids face
Research shows that 30% of girls and 20% of boys aged 12 to 17 have suffered from an anxiety disorder. Millions of kids suffer stress while their parents are unaware. It’s not always easy to recognize when kids are stressed out, but short-term behavioural changes — such as mood swings, acting out, changes in sleep patterns, or bedwetting — can be indications. Some kids have physical effects, including stomachaches and headaches,” says KidsHealth.

So many parents have come to realize the age-old methods of meditation and chanting to help their children manage the stress in their life.

The Benefits of Meditation for kids
Teaches them to focus: with overstimulation through gadgets, children have reduced capacity to turn their attention completely to one thing and be able to stick with their studies. Meditation teaches them to focus.
To de-stress for academic success – Meditation gives our children the freedom from negative effects of stress and allows the mind to be fresh and inspired. It gives them an expansive and relaxed way of thinking which can help bring creativity and clarity.
Improves sleep, Heightens awareness, Increases attention and helps regulate blood pressure.
There is mounting evidence (4) that meditation helps kids with ADHD. A 2004 study showed that kids who practised meditation with their parents in a clinical setting twice a week and then continued to practice at home had improved attention span and focus. In another study, teens and their parents completed a mindfulness program and reported fewer stress levels and fewer ADHD symptoms, such as impulsiveness and emotional reactivity.
Increases compassion and boosts positive emotions and feelings, such as happiness, confidence, and inner peace. There are many benefits to being aware and connecting with the inner you.
How to get started?
In mantra meditation you meditate on sacred sounds, often meditating on one of the 108 primordial sounds. The vibrations from mantras have the power to rearrange your molecular structure. Each sound has a distinct vibration, and as a result, each mantra has a different effect. All sound affects your molecular structure.

Sanskrit, which happens to be the language that most mantras come from, is a very onomatopoetic language, which means you can hear the sound of the event itself in the word. In Sanskrit, the word ‘man’ indicates the mind, and the word ‘tra’ indicates that which liberates. Thus chanting a mantra can literally deliver the mind from the contemplation of the mundane in order to reach spiritual goals and satisfaction. Here’s how to get started.

1. Set an example
Children are highly likely to follow your habits, both good and bad. Practising meditation and chanting when they are around will pique their curiosity and they are more likely to join in.

2. Practice silence
Practice silence for a few hours each day, start off with the lowest time possible and increase it. You can turn it into a game, “who can be the quietest?” The concept of silence must be established with this.

3. Every child’s meditation threshold is different
Many experts recommend one minute of meditation per year of age, starting at around age eight. Don’t be forceful with anything just let things flow organically.

4. Pranayama (Breathing Exercises)
Breath is connected to prana (life-force energy) and oxygenates every cell in our body. It can also be a very good technique for calming stressed nerves, temper tantrums and other states that are born out of fear. Here are a few pranayama techniques:

Ujjayi (Victorious Breath): Explore practising the ‘deep ocean sound’ at the back of the throat, while taking deep belly breaths. It truly calms and settles their energy.
Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breath): This is said to balance the right and left hemispheres of the brain—leading to better cognitive development. Just start off by breathing in from one end while holding the other end shut with a finger and release while doing the same on the other side.
5. Chanting Mantra
OM/AUM (ॐ )
Om is the sound of the universe and divine intelligence. Allow your little ones to play with the tone and volume of their AUMs and OM’s and go at their own pace.

The mantra consists out of 4 parts;

First sound: aaaaahhhh – the sound of manifestation
Second sound: oooooooo – the sound of sustenance
Third sound: mmmmmm – the sound of completion
Fourth sound: silence – a moment of rest after the first three sounds.
Take a deep breath in and On the exhalation chant “Aaahhhhoooommmm” and silence. Make all 4 part the same length and
Chant three Om’s to make it full circle. The vibrations will give you a deep feeling of relaxation.

The Gayatri mantra
Gayatri mantra has 24 syllables, each of which is connected to a different part of the brain. It has been used to enhance intelligence and intuition. It’s also a beautiful song and great exercise for memory.

ॐ भूर्भुवः स्वः (Om Bhur Bhuvaḥ Swaḥ)
तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं (Tat-savitur Vareñyaṃ)
भर्गो देवस्यः धीमहि (Bhargo Devasya Dhīmahi)
धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् (Dhiyo Yonaḥ Prachodayāt)

Kumara Mantra
– Om Kumara Kushalo Dayayei Namaha

Meaning: Salutations to the Divine Mother who brings blessings to children. The Kumara mantra is a sacred lullaby for children of all ages. It gives us a chance to honour the new generation and to pass on what wisdom we have found, so that they may continue making the Earth a more beautiful, peaceful place.

Saraswati Mantra
ॐ ऎं सरस्वत्यै नमः – OM Eim Saraswatayei Namaha

“OM and salutations to Saraswati (the goddess of music, poetry, the arts, education, learning, and divine speech).” The Saraswati Mantra opens us (and our children) towards education, learning, spiritual knowledge, and the artistic realms of music and poetry.

Hanuman Mantra
ॐ हुं हनुमते नमः – OM Hum Hanumate Vijayam

Meaning: “Victory to the invincible Hanuman.” Chant it when your children need a boost of energy. The Hanuman Mantra is also a mantra for physical fitness.

OM Niyamaya Namaha
Meaning: Salutations to the governor of the laws of nature and their conduct.” This mantra celebrates and honors the perfect order of nature, and our earthly existence as humans on sacred mother earth.

Lord Ganesha Mantra
ॐ गम गणपतये नमः – Om Gam Gam Ganapataye Namah

This mantra will help to invoke the energy of Ganesh so we can work through the obstacles and find possibilities.

Om Shanti
This mantra will bring peace to you first, the place where peace starts. The more peaceful you feel and act the more this will influence those around you.

After toning or using mantras, ask them to keep their eyes closed for a while and notice how they feel. This is a powerful meditation tool that can help kids gain awareness of the effects of using mantras.

Children’s meditation usually tends to be guided, especially when the children are young or have never meditated before. Guided meditation involves a teacher leading kids (or adults) in relaxation through deeper breathing and visualization of calming places or events.

Happy Meditation!

Why vegetarian diet is important for spirituality and meditation

if you want to live a spiritual life or go deep in meditation or want to excel in any spiritual sadhana then vegetarianism is surely going to help you tremendously.

vegetarian diet is very conducive for spiritual growth. almost all religions and spiritual teachers have given emphasis on vegetarianism.

why vegetarian diet is important for spirituality and meditation:

1. when we kill any animal for our food then we not only eat the animal flesh but also its emotions and energy. when an animal is dying then it is in extreme panic and fearful state. all this emotions of fear, panic and anger are released in the animal body. which in turn are absorbed by our energy bodies and will affect our mental state negatively. our energy bodies determines the well being of our emotional and psychic state. the non-vegetarian diet is also reflected in our aura.

2. in meditation, we try to raise our consciousness. men is more conscious than animals. but if we eat non-vegetarian food then it lowers our consciousness and makes us more unconsciousness. meditation is the path from unconscious state to super conscious state.

3. when an animal is being killed then it is giving curse. this curse will be shared by everybody who will be involved in killing the animal, cooking its flesh, serving it and then the eater. in tantra, they knew about this. so advance tantrics always try to balance the karma with the animal, whose flesh they are eating/using during tantric rituals. i came to know this fact while reading aghori vimalnanda books on tantra written by robert svobodha. excellent books for someone who is interested in tantra and aghora.

4. non-vegetarian food makes our energy body very heavy. to go higher in an spiritual practice, our energy bodies or aura should be very clean and lighter. it should not be burdened with emotions or desires. thats why even in vegetarian food, the satvic food is given more emphasis. non-vegetarian food makes us more rooted to earth and earthy emotions and thus our soul cannot fly high in spiritual practices or meditation.

5. non-vegetarian food increases the tendencies of sexuality, violence, anger, jealousy in the person. whereas vegetarian food makes the person more calm and peaceful. here, i don’t mean that all vegetarian people are peaceful. i am just indicating the qualities which vegetarian and non-vegetarian food has.

6. by killing any animal directly on indirectly, the person generates karmic ties with the animal. as per law of karma everything gets balanced and come back to us. so don’t do anything to others which you don’t want for yourself. moreover, the spiritual sadhaks try their best not to create new karmas. because one has to clear all the karmas before getting enlightened.

Kundalini Mata Shakti, Kundalini Mata Shakti, Kundalini Mata Shakti, Namo Namo!

Translation:

I bow to the primal power.
I bow to the all-encompassing power and energy.
I bow to that through which God creates.
I bow to the creative power of
the Kundalini, the Divine Mother Power.

or

First force of all creation, to You I bow
Divine force, everywhere, to You I bow
Creative force, primal force, to You I bow
Rising up, Divine Mother, to You I bow

Mantra meaning:

This mantra is glorious, empowering, and will lift your spirits. As you awaken this creative energy within you, you’ll be in for a wild ride!

Benefits:

This mantra is one into the frequency of the Divine Mother, and to the primal protective, generating energy. It is said that chanting it eliminates fears and fulfills desires. By daily chanting and repetition of a mantra (aloud or just mentally), your physical body gets purified and unwanted toxins are removed.

Practicing this mantra meditation is said to bring forth not just the energy of compassion, but the divinity itself. In addition, when we practice regular mantra meditation, it’s as if we’re taking our right brains for a good workout session at the gym.

How to do the Adi Shakti mantra meditation:

Sit in easy pose or in a chair with a straight spine. Place your hands infront of the heart center with the arms parallel to the floor. Both palms face down with the left palm 2-3 inches above the right hand. Focus your eyes open or closed as you wish. Chant this mantra. Chant as long as you like.

“Merge in the Maha Shakti. This is enough to take away your misfortune. This will carve out of you a woman. A woman needs her own Shakti, not anybody else will do it. Today let the past die and let prosperity live. Let your weakness die and let your power live.

This is a Maha Shakti mantra, and when a woman chants it, God clears the way. This is not a religion, it is a reality. A woman is not born to suffer, and woman needs her own power. Just utter it once and see what it does.”

“When India and Indian women knew this mantra, it dwelt in the land of milk and honey.” – Yogi Bhajan’s quotes about this mantra.

Benefits Of Meditation

Benefits Of Meditation
Meditation has the most important ability to replenish mental and emotional energy.
Benefits Of MeditationBenefits of Meditation are immense for every people like the people who are suffering from mental tension and chronic psychological diseases. The term meditation is a general term employed to illustrate a wide range of practices where calming the mind whilst relaxing the body is the main objective. Simply put, meditation is the time of contemplation; a marvellous journey to the unexplored centre of one's own self. The deeper states of meditation is achieved as one peels off the layers of attachments, tension, worries, tears and fears and becomes acutely aware and astutely intuitive. Meditation is therefore not just "thinking deep thoughts", on the contrary a continuous process where thinking ends.
Benefits of meditation are manifold however the real miracle of meditation is in the elusive healing transformation that happens, not only in the mind and emotions but also within the body. One of the primary benefits of meditation is, it allows one to think in a positive manner. Meditation has the most important ability to refill mental and emotional energy while enabling one to create new attitudes to respond life in a rather positive sense whilst offering him a clear, spiritual understanding of his own self.
Meditation energizes one's awareness, brining both peace and wisdom to a busy mind. The unlimited benefits of meditation help in expanding one's capacity to love- both nature as well as mankind. It also helps to dissolve many fears, which one might have. Meditation reveals the secret of consciousness and the treasures of the soul. It develops the power to become more alert and interactive with each other. But the greatest gift that comes with meditation is the gentle and strong glow of inner peace.
Meditation in the modern era is used to 'heal, repair and improve oneself physically, mentally and emotionally'. The benefits of meditation can thus be categorized into three distinct categories like physiological benefits of meditation, psychological benefits of meditation and most importantly the spiritual benefits of meditation.
Physiological Benefits of Meditation
Meditation has great health benefits. It is perhaps one of the best possible antidotes to fight with the stress of modern life. Meditation tames the mind while relaxing the body therefore it has been reckoned as a process to relax which in turn has immense health benefits. Meditation helps to retrain response mechanism so one becomes rather neutral while reacting in negative or adverse situation. The health benefits of meditation thus allow one to be more cantered whilst in total control of one's own self.
Another benefit of meditation is to strengthen the immune system. This in turn helps to ward off diseases before it affects the body. A meditative life further fosters other aspects of healthy life style.

* Deep physiological rest is shown by a distinct drop in the metabolism rate, as measured by the oxygen consumption by an individual in meditation, waking activity, sleep and hypnosis.
* Meditation can normalize a person's weight. An overweight person can lose weight through meditation and vice versa.
Psychological Benefits of Meditation:
The psychological benefit of meditation is also immense and all encompassing. Meditation supports to foster a healthy mind whilst allowing one to release mental states like worries, tension, tears and fears. Meditation purifies the mind and daily practice of meditation gradually replaces the negative thought process by positive attitudes.
The psychological benefits of meditation thus aid focusing the mind, to control over the flow of life force and indeed to help one in turning inside.

* Meditation can make you build a relationship with God.
* It helps to attain spiritual growth, soul consciousness and enlightenment.
* Studies have also shown that those who meditate regularly react more quickly and more effectively to a stressful event.
* Memory recall is also enhanced by meditation.
Spiritual Benefits of Meditation:
On a mental level meditation develops inner peace, clarity, self-confidence, self-acceptance, reactivity, productivity and eventually greater self-actualization. . On a spiritual level it puts one in contact with the inner voice, with the inner strength and indeed with the inner spiritual wisdom and love.
Since ages, the enlightened cultures have sought the enormous benefits of meditation. Meditation, according to Ayurveda, is our ability to connect with our true self and consciousness.

Meditation, according to Ayurveda, is our ability to connect with our true self and consciousness.

Meditation is a beautiful and effective tool to not only calm the mind but also help to detox the body along with diet. For this reason, Ayurveda considers that it should be included as part of life, within our daily routines, to maintain health and improve our lifestyle.

➡ How is your routine? What positive thoughts are the ones that invade your mind when meditating?

How to attain Samadhi in Meditation?

Question: How to attain Samadhi in Meditation?

Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji:
The human nervous system is so designed that it can exhibit the totality of consciousness. Living in a finite body, and expressing infinity, is the possibility of human life!

What is the highest state of the blossoming of consciousness?
The highest state of the blossoming of consciousness is that the consciousness, which is neither in the past, nor in the future, nor in the present but a witness to all three; or you can say that consciousness, which contains the infinite past, the infinite future and is totally available in the present moment.

It is like a kaleidoscope or a telescope. Let’s take the example of a telescope. A telescope can catch and bring into your vision, something that the naked eye cannot perceive! Through a telescope, you can see the faraway stars, the planets, and their movements, so much more clearly. Now, what does a telescope do? Well, it just magnifies the rays that are coming in anyway, and makes you aware of them; you can comprehend them.

In the same way, though the infinite Divine consciousness is present everywhere, its telescopic vision is an altered state of consciousness and that is what’s called samadhi.

The final blossoming of the consciousness is samadhi.
Experience the highest blossoming of the consciousness today with the New Shiva Guided Meditation.

Meditation is a great healer for traumas. When you realize that your mind is bigger than a memory, healing happens.
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji

What does ayurveda have to do with meditation?

Q: Gurudev, What does ayurveda have to do with meditation?
Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji..

Ayurveda is a complete science. It describes dincharaya (daily routine) and ritucharya (seasonal routine). Dinacharya includes meditation for balancing of the three doshas (mind or body type). The mind has an impact on the body and all its doshas and gunas (three qualities of nature: sattva, rajas and tamas). So, the mind, breath, herbs - they are all linked. Similarly, ayurveda helps one to meditate deeply. Too many thoughts indicates high pitta (one of the three doshas). So pitta must be treated. In ayurveda, combinations are referred to as ‘yoga’. For example, when two herbs are put together it is called yoga. So that concept of yoga is similar to meditation and to ayurveda.

Meditation is the technique we use to keep the focus

*Chapter 1 - Intense Love*

Waves of emotion by Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji

Our consciousness expands when it is happy or in love. When we feel unhappy or sad, the consciousness contracts.

Shrinking of the mind is unhappiness. Expansion of the mind is happiness. When the mind expands we often lose awareness.

This is because we have only known expansion of the mind in sleep and in sleep the mind is expanded and relaxed.

When we are happy, we are all over the place, not focused and not centred. We lose the quality of awareness, right?

When we are unhappy we are very focused and keen, but we are shrunk. Meditation is the technique we use to keep the focus.

It is the fourth state of consciousness, the turya or Shiva. As we practice more and more, we start imbibing that consciousness into our nervous system.

Different molecules in the brain are functioning all the time. There are zillions of molecules and only a few function at a time.

Others take over when these few stop. This cycle goes on, so we meditate everyday, because we want all our neurons and cells to be educated and trained - to live in that awareness.

We call a city totally literate when each and every person in the city knows to read and write. Just like that, in the city of your body.

Some people get to learn today, some people get to learn tomorrow and others the next day.

So, everyday there are different people or different molecules going up front. And every time you meditate, you culture them.

It takes some time to culture all the neurons in the brain. Once they are cultured, you live in bliss.

Out of the three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which prakriti is good for doing meditation?

🌺Q: Out of the three doshas: Vata, Pitta and Kapha, which prakriti is good for doing meditation?

♥️Sri Sri : By doing meditation you can go beyond all the three doshas (imbalances): Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Meditation is the destroyer of all the three doshas. If you first do meditation and then check your naadi (pulse), you will see that it has changed. If there is equilibrium (sama-dosha) between these prakriti then that is suitable for doing meditation. If you are healthy then your meditation will be deeper. And by doing meditation your health improves. Both these things are there.

The monk achieves self-realization and understands that anger is within him; it simply needs to hit an external object to provoke it.

A monk decides to meditate alone. Away from his monastery, he takes a boat and goes to the middle of the lake, closes his eyes and begins to meditate.

After a few hours of unperturbed silence, he suddenly feels the blow of another boat hitting his.

With his eyes still closed, he feels his anger rising and, when he opens his eyes, he is ready to shout at the boatman who dared to disturb his meditation.

But when he opened his eyes, saw that it was an empty boat, not tied up, floating in the middle of the lake…

At that moment, the monk achieves self-realization and understands that anger is within him; it simply needs to hit an external object to provoke it.

After that, whenever he meets someone who irritates or provokes his anger, he remembers: “The other person is just an empty boat. Anger is inside me.“
