Thalayalangadu Temple Front View
Sri Nardana Pureeswarar temple is located in the village named Thalayalangadu, in the district of Tiruvarur, in the state of Tamil Nadu in South India. The main deity of this temple is Nardana Pureeswarar – Aadavallar (Lord Shiva) and his consort is Balambikai. The holy tree of this temple is Vilwa. The holy water of this temple is Changu theertham. The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Kameeyam. This temple is nearly 1000-2000 years old in this region. The historical name of this place is Thalayalanganam.
As per the local legends and pundits, “Saint Tirunavukkarasar suggests. “He is penance Himself; He is the Veda and its seed, wearing the crescent moon. He always retrieve me from sufferings, hiding the Ganga in head and has Mother Uma as His part, He is all philosophy. I have wasted and lost all the days being away from Him. That Lord is in Thalayalangadu.” This is the 93rd Shiva temple on the southern bank of Cauvery praised in hymns.”
The main festivals of this shrine are Thai New Moon day in January-February; Aipasi Annabishekam in October-November, Masi Shivrathri in February-March, New Year day as per the Hindu traditional calendar and Georgian calendar, Deepavalli, Pongal,
Amavasya, Vaikunta Ekadashi and other festivals related to Lord Shiva. These festivals are celebrated in grand manner with much festivity and charishma in this particular temple. Local people plus devotees cooperation and pilgrims of far and near makes this temple as most sought after temple in the district.
People pray here for cure from serious skin diseases as leprosy and for child boon. They bathe in the sacred spring and pray to Lord and Mother. People who have white or pale red coloured skin take bath in pond in this temple and worship lord siva and amman to get remedy.

தேவாரப் பாடல்பெற்ற காவிரி தென்கரை சிவத்தலங்களுள் 93 வது தலம்
இறைவன் – நர்த்தனபுரீஸ்வரர், நடனேசுவரர், ஆடவல்லநாதர்
அம்பாள் – உமாதேவி, திருமடந்தையம்மை, பாலாம்பிகை
தல விருட்சம் – வில்வம், பலா
தீர்த்தம் – சங்கு தீர்த்தம்
வழி : திருவாரூரில் இறங்கி, கும்பகோணம் செல்லும் பேருந்து மார்க்கத்தில் 14 கி.மீ. பயணித்தால், தலையாலங்காட்டை அடையலாம். சோழ சூடாமணி ஆற்றின் வடகரையில் 5 நிமிட நடந்தால் ஆலயம் அமைந்துள்ள இடம் அடையலாம்.
தமிழகத்தின் தென் மாவட்டங்களில் இருந்து வருபவர்கள், கும்பகோணத்தில் இறங்கி, 25 கி.மீ. தூரம் திருவாரூர் செல்லும் பேருந்தில் பயணித்தால் இத் தலத்தை அடையலாம்.
ஸ்தல வரலாறு : செருக்குற்றுத் திரிந்த தாருகாவன முனிவர்கள் இறைவனின் பெருமை உணராது, அவரை அழித்திடத் தீர்மானித்து வேள்வி நடத்தினர். ஈசனோ அவற்றிலிருந்து புறப்பட்ட புலியைக் கிழித்து, அதன் தோலைப் போர்த்தி வீர நடனம் புரிந்தார். நாகங்களை ஆபரணமாகச் சூடினார். மானை ஏந்தினார். மழுவைத் தாங்கினார். தாருகாவன முனிவர்கள் வேள்வி செய்து ஏவி விட்ட முயலகன் என்னும் கொடிய அரக்கனை அடக்கிய சிவபெருமான், அம் முயலகன் மீது நடனம் ஆடி தாருகாவன முனிவர்களின் ஆணவத்தை ஒடுக்கிய தலம் இது. எனவே நர்த்தனபுரீஸ்வரர் என்ற பெயர் ஏற்பட்டது. நடராஜர் சிலையில் ஐயனின் திருப்பாதங்களில் கீழ் முயலகன் இருப்பதை காணலாம்.
இவ்வூர் சங்க காலத்தில் “தலையாலங்கானம்” என்று போற்றப்பட்டுள்ளது.
உயர்ந்த ராஜகோபுரமோ ஓங்கிய மதில்களோ இல்லாமல் இவ்வாலயம் அமைந்துள்ளது.
கிழக்கு நோக்கிய ஆலயத்தின் முன்பு, தலத்தின் திருக்குளமான சங்கு தீர்த்தம் உள்ளது.
வாயிலுக்குள் சென்றால் முதலில் அம்பாள் சந்நிதி தென்திசை நோக்கியுள்ளது.
ஸ்ரீ பாலாம்பிகை கலையெழில் கொண்டு கருணை புரிகிறாள்.
நந்தி தேவர் தனி மண்டபத்துள் அமர்ந்துள்ளார்.
நீண்ட பாணம் கொண்டு சதுர ஆவுடையார் மீது அற்புதமாய் தரிசனம் தருகின்றார் ஸ்ரீநர்த்தனபுரீஸ்வரர் ஆடல்வல்லநாதர்.
வடக்கே தல விருட்சமான பலா மரத்தைக் கண்டு வணங்கலாம்.
ஸ்வாமி சன்னதி முன்பு ஓலைச்சுவடி ஏந்திய சரஸ்வதியின் சிலை உள்ளது. வீணையில்லா சரஸ்வதியை இங்கே காணலாம். சரஸ்வதி தேவி இங்கு பரமனை வழிபடும்போது, ஜோதிர்லிங்க தரிசனத்தைத் தந்து அருள்புரிந்துள்ளார்.
தனியே ஒரு லிங்கமும், அம்பாள் சந்நிதியும், விநாயகருக்கும் முருகனுக்கும் தனித்தனி சந்நிதியும் இங்கே உள்ளது.
கபில முனிவர் வழிபட்ட திருத்தலம். இத்தலத்து தீர்த்தம் நோய் தீர்க்கும் சிறப்புடையது.
தரிசன பயன்கள்: சங்கு தீர்த்தத்தில் நீராடுபவர்கள் குன்மம், முயலக நோய், சித்தபிரமை, வெண்குஷ்டம் முதலிய நோய் தீரும். சனி தோஷம் நிவர்த்தி ஸ்தலம்.
இத்தீர்த்தத்தில் தொடர்ந்து 45 நாட்கள் நீராடி, இறைவன், இறைவி முன்பு நெய் தீபமேற்றி வழிபட, சகல வியாதிகளும் தீரும். வெண்குஷ்டம் போன்ற தோல் நோய்களும் மறைவது கண்கூடு.
