When you see events as just 'happenings', rather than as 'doings', you are liberated right away. You have all experienced this. Sometimes, you didn't want to shout, but you got angry and you shouted. It happened. An event happened, another event happened and then, a third. And you only see a little gap. You see everything is 'happening'. You are not doing them. Some days you sing very well and on some days write a nice poem. And you wonder how this peotry came about! Even if you ask the chefs, they would say that the food they prepared was wonderful on some days beyond their expectations and on some days the food was not good. They had not wanted to make the food bad but it was tasteless. In fact, on some days their extra effort made the food bad!
You are surprised by the way things happen. Life has taught us at every step that everything is happening; that we are not the doer. The greatest wonder is how man still does not see this! Man thinks that he is 'doing'. Someone feels that he has become a doctor. What did he do to become a doctor? Nothing! Everything fell into sequence like that! Everything happened and he became a doctor. This is the illusion. There is a very subtle veil of doership. 'I did it. If I had not made an effort...' This will be the argument: 'If I had not made an effort, how could I have become a doctor or lawyer? I had to put in my effort into becoming that'. What effort could you put in? You could not but put in an effort. You had no choice but to put in an effort at that moment. It happened. You had grown. Your life had taken a direction, and it has been flowing in that direction.
And then, we are so clever. There is one gentleman who would say he didn't do anything. You do something and then say that you didn't do it; that 'I' did it. But you say 'I' did everything for you, I am the enjoyer. So why do you say you are the sufferer? These go together. When you say you have not done it, you are also not experiencing the consequences. Someone else does something and you experience the consequence? Where does that stand? You tell me to do it. Okay then if 'I' do it, I will enjoy it also! You may say that 'I' created a problem. Yes, Guruji himself is suffering anyway for that problem. Where are you? Why have you come in between? If yoy think Guruji is doing everything for you, then Guruji is the one who is enjoying or suffering. That is the truth. One consciousness is doing everything, and is enjoying or suffering everything too. You eat too much at night, and the next day you say that 'I' made you eat too much and you were suffering!
рди рдХрд░्рддाрд╕ि рди рднोрдХ्рддाрд╕ि рдоुрдХ्рдд рдПрд╡ाрд╕ि рд╕рд░्рд╡рджा . In your true nature, you are free the moment you see it's not in you. If you have a pain, observe it's happening in the body. If there is tightness or joy in your mind, observe that it is tight, sad, unhappy or happy. Just observe that you are not enjoying, and it is happening elsewhere, as though it is happening elsewhere.
Have you had the experience of pouring water on your body and feeling as though water is being poured somewhere else and not you? Have you had this experience, as though things are happening to someone else and not to you? I'm sure you all have had this experience at some time or other. Do an experiment. Put your warm hands in cold water, and when your hands have become very cold, after freezing water or holding ice cubes in your hand if you touch anything, you won't feel it. It's as though something else is feeling or touching. When your hands, legs or body become numb, you still experience it, but as though it is elsewhere. This is what happens with anaesthesia. Anaesthesia creates a momentary seperation of the consciousness from the body. If your stomach is cut open after anaesthesia, you watch and see it as though it's not happening to you. Dentists give anaesthesia, and then pull your teeth out. You don't feel it. After the teeth are pulled out, you don't feel that portion of the body for quite awhile. I'm sure many of you have experienced having teeth being pulled out.
