Let this fire of awareness, this fire of knowledge burn all that ignorance and destroy your sorrow. What are you unhappy for? What is it that you are unhappy about? You are unhappy about the situations and circumstances around you. You are unhappy about the people around you. Are they going to be there permanently or forever? They are moving and changing. It is all like a flowing river! Wake up and see the person you saw yesterday night is not the same person this morning, this evening or tommorow. Why are you unhappy about other people? Know they are all like bubbles on the surface of water. They are fleeting; they are moving. You are unhappy about situations and circumstances. How long are they going to be there, not forever? They all move and change. What else are you unhappy about - the health of your body? How long you can hold on to your body even if it is very healthy? Can you hold on to it, forever? One day it is going to drop. If a body gets sick, attend to it, that is all. Getting mentally agitated makes it even worse. It is the nature of the body to be sick and healthy.
A very old Swamiji, eighty two years old, came to see me. He was very proud of never having gotten sick all his life. He kept telling this to everybody. He slept on a cot outside. And the next morning at 3, he could not move his body. It had become so stiff because it was cold outside. He started chanting Om loudly. Everybody thought that he was meditating or chanting in the morning (a habit of his). Maybe the old man could not sleep any longer. He would go to bed exactly at 9 in the night. So he must have got up at 3 in the morning and was chanting. He was shouting Om at the peak of his voice. I thought something was wrong with him. So I came down to see him. He exclaimed that he could not move; that he was dying. He needed a warm blanket, hot milk and a couple of bananas. In the middle of the night!
The body is unpredictable. All our life, we put our hundred percent into giving comfort to this body, nourishing and keeping it safe. What can you keep? Can you keep it as a monument? The entire life energy is put into this. People read health food books day and night. And it makes them sicker! People who take too much care of their bodies, havd very poor health. People in the village have so much strength that they can lift stones. Yet they eat a very poor, nutrition-less diet. The diet has nothing, just ragi, mung dal and rice. They don't even eat vegetables. They grow vegetables and sell them outside. The people eat one grain, and they are healthy. They work hard for twelve to thirteen hours and they don't get sick. They are very strong.
