Sometimes children cry all the time. They cry a lot for something, and even when they get it they continue to cry without even looking at it. The enthusiasm of crying is so much that even after getting it, they continue to cry for something else. You may ask them why they are still crying when they have the toy in their hand. But they are unable to stop. The momentum of tears and crying continues, even after getting the joy. Parents often get fed up, and do not know what to do. They give them a slap, and send them to bed. And even sometimes when they wake up the next morning, they start crying again.
We have not grown up from that stage at all. We are in that same situation. However, the objects are different. We don't cry for toys, but we get for somebody or something else. It continues.
Sukham tishtha, is another key word. Everyone experiences joy in life. There is not a single person on this planet who hasn't ever experienced what joy is. This is impossible. However depressed or unhappy somebody is, they have been touched by the hand of happiness at some time. In fact, it is the other way around. The happier a person has been, the more misery he experiences. If someone is miserable, it means they have been very happy before! A queen placed in ordinary circumstances as ordinary citizen will be much unhappier than a labourer. If someone is unhappy, it's because they have been very happy at sometime. So they don't need any pity. You don't need to pity them. They are just balancing it out. They have eaten the dessert at the beginning.
Joy or happiness comes, and but does not seem to stay with anybody. But it stays somewhere. Where? When you have come to your central core of existence, the joy in life remains. Sukham tishtha. Then, it stays and doesn't go away. Being joyful and happy is not a great thing. But being established in joy and happiness is really something worthwhile in life. เคเคชเคถाเคฎ्เคฏ เคธुเคं เคคिเคท्เค । When you relax, rest and repose in your Self, then the joy in you remains. When you are happy, you are very excited. You are all out there and are so forgetful about yourself. Then you will see that joy came to you like a flood, and flowed away leaving you sad and unhappy; making you feel more miserable. But a joy comes which stays with you, with your attention or your awareness not getting lost, but totally being there in the Self, brings you the realization that you are made up of this joy; that every cell and atom of your existence is made up of this bliss. It is just being momentarily covered with all the conflicting thoughts and ideas. Then, you will relax and rest. Sukham tishtha. Staying in that happiness; เคธ्เคตाเคค्เคฎเคจ्เคฏाเคจเคจ्เคฆเคตिเค्เคฐเคนे, in your Self, which is the idyll of bliss.
You compartmentalize your life, then you are deceiving yourself. You may feel that you will live your spiritual life and do your spiritual practices for maybe one week or ten days of your life. At this time, you will meditate. After finishing this, you will feel that you can do anything for the rest of the time. If you do this, you are deceiving yourself. Being spiritual, and being on the path means consolidating and bringing together all the phases of your life, and making one whole and joyful you! It's not that you can do your spiritual practice, be nice and good to people for some time, and later on be nasty. That's why all the moral teachings have failed. They are all like concepts in the mind. They advocate to be good to everybody, and to do service. This is done and then it is all over. It does not touch all the other personalities in you. Being spiritual means bringing together all aspects. But your attention is everywhere but on you, and even if it is on you, it is with relation to something else - that you want this and you want that. เคธ्เคตाเคค्เคฎเคจ्เคฏाเคจเคจ्เคฆเคตिเค्เคฐเคนे ।
