On the days when you eat too much sugar, you feel as if something is happening in the brain. Or when you have too much coffee, you feel excited. You recognize that you ate something which caused a change in you. You feel that you are not normal. You are either empty, or tired or restless. You see this as something separate. These bodily impurities are called mala. And then there is something called vikshepa. Vikshepa is in the mind. You don't see it as an impurity but you are simply agitated. Friction arises because of conflicting thoughts in the mind. This is called Vikshepa. When a part of you wants to do something, and another part is against doing it, there is a tussle or tug-of-war in your mind between two different thoughts. This is Kshobha. However, neither vikshepa nor kshobha arise when you are sleeping. They arise when you are awake.
And then the third thing is avarana - a covering or a sheath between your blissful nature, and the mind and the existence. It is some sort of a blockade - a veil or a curtain. So, on the body level the impurities are called mala, on the mind level they are called kshobha and on the intellect level they are vikshepa. And deeper than these is avarana. These three sheaths or impurities of three different types cover the bliss that is you. рдоा рд╕рдЩ्рдХрд▓्рдкрд╡िрдХрд▓्рдкाрдн्рдпां рдЪिрдд्рддं рдХ्рд╖ोрднрдп рдЪिрди्рдордп । Your mind and your consciousness is alive. This consciousness is full of life; full of light. But you are unaware of it when the conflict and thoughts gush and rush into your mind. Physically you are healthy, everything seems all right, but inside there is a turmoil. Though it (body, mind, etc) is all connected, a division is made here for the sake of understanding.

There may be so many thoughts arising in you. You may want to have a Coca-Cola. You may want to get a pen. You may want to clean your box or you may want to arrange your suitcase. These thoughts line up and your actions follow them. Often, you follow a certain sankalpa or thought, and often you don't follow several others. These are sankalpas and vikalpas. They constantly arise, but at some moments they don't. What are those moments? The moments when you are in bliss, in joy, in devotion, in surrender, observing nature or if you are one hundred percent into any one action e.g. you are washing the dishes, and are one hundred percent into it. At that moment you're with the dishes, the soap bubbles and the water flowing on the plates and the sponges scrubbing them. You maybe planting a sapling in your garden. You are totally involved in it - the pot, the mud, the roots, and your hands. At that moment, you are totally there. You may be picking up the pebbles in the garden. You are so totally with it. You maybe weeding there, and be totally there with the weeds. At those moments, all the other things are just not there. You will not be thinking about what you are going to say to somebody; about what you do here and there or what somebody thinks about you. Or how you can impress others. You are right there. Those are the moments when there is no conflict (sankalpa or vikalpa) inside you.
There is devotion when there is no sankalpa or vikalpa rising in you. You are just one being; just one whole you. At those moments, you are so alive! In fact, these are the only moments you are living on this planet. Rest of the time you are not living. You are just existing.
