He goes on, to give several examples. Sugar is present in sugar cane juice. Sugar is present all over in the cane. The more you press the sugar cane, more juice is got. It is of the same taste throughout. Sea water is salty, wherever you take the water from. Whether from the side, or you travel to the middle of the ocean and take water from there, it is also salty. Like that, I am present all over in everything. He had the sudden realization : 'Aho!' You have also had this experience, but you are not aware of it.
Sometimes when you are sitting, a child falls or somebody gets hurt. Don't you also feel that immediately? Have you experienced this? Driving in a car you see an accident. Immediately you feel something in the pit of your stomach. It's as though you had that experience along with that person. It is the same when people are sitting and laughing. You come, sit and laugh. You don't know why you are laughing! There is no need to laugh. But the laughter takes over. If people are sitting with so much love and you go and sit there, for no reason, you also start feeling waves of love come into you. It happens. Some people always criticize this or that. When you go and talk to them, you join with their criticism. You shake hands with them, and say, 'Yes, this is not good, that person is bad or this person is bad', like middle school children. Primary school children don't do it. They are more innocent.
Do you know how much energy we waste on all this talking? We have not been skilful in our speech. We have not been skilful in our action, and we have not been skilful in our perception. Janaka said, "It is so simple, but it needs a little skill." He didn't know what the skill was. He said, "Oh, through some skill I have just now found ." The process of skill is also unknown otherwise you will know. That is the true skill i.e. when doership is not there. The person doesn't think, "My skill! I skillfully found the Divine." The main skill in him was total surrender, devotion and innocence. He sat at the feet of Ashtavakra with innocence and just let it happen. He let the presence of Ashtavakra hold him. He knew it happened through some skill, but he didn't know what skill. This shows that he was a person of great depth. Otherwise,he would have said, "Oh, this is so simple. I would have found this out long ago. There was no need for Ashtavakra to tell me I am infinity. Anyway, I am. I can thank him for the way he came and reminded me. But I am very clever, I am very intelligent." He would have thought that way. But no, his heart and mind was so aligned with nature, so simple, and clear.
