One fine day Ajamila father arranged for his marriage to a wonderful polite kind hearted woman. He lived his simple & peaceful life with his wife & young family.
As usual, upon his father's request he went out in the field to bring some fruits & flowers for worshipping the Lord. He then encountered a beautiful female prostitute indulged in sexual pleasure with a beautiful guy. Although Ajamila was a strict Brahmin he became helplessly entangled(attracted) by seeing a man and woman engaged in sexual activity.
Abruptly, a prostitute woman sexually glanced over Ajamila with a wild eyes(with madly excited look), Ajamila couldn't take eyes off her(he was aroused by this lovely female prostitute).
Ajamila would constantly think & fantasize about her. In order to be near her, Ajamila eventually decided to employ her as a maidservant in his own home.
In the affair with this prostitute, he abandoned his nephew and married wife and moved in with this prostitute. Being in the association of this prostitute, he lost all his good qualities. He completely forgot his values, and indulged in sinful life.
As a result, he had children with "then-prostitute" and in serving his woman and children, he neglected devoting time to the God.
Eventually when Ajamila run out of his savings, his prostitute wife said “No money you can forget about me then”.
Ajamila then became ruthless in his attempts to gain money… stealing, threatening, murdering, he would let nothing stand in his way. One by one all of his good qualities left him & he led a degraded life of crime & debauchery(excessive indulgence in sex, alcohol)
88 years of his life had passed by having completely forgotten that his purpose of life is to render(provide) loving service to Lord Krishna. He had become very attached to his unlawful wife, home & children. The youngest child was called Narayan & the old Ajamila was very very attached to him.
Later, one day Ajamila was sick & bedridden… He calls out for his beloved son”Narayan” coughing non stop & seeing the death near him.
Ajamila goes”Narayan Narayan where are you my son… Narayan Narayan oh.. Narayan”.
As soon as Yamadutas - the servants of Lord Yamadharmaraja came to take out Ajamila's Soul… Lord Krishna appears in his multiple forms in front of Yamadutas
Lord Krishna stops them right away from taking away Ajamila's Soul.
When Lord Krishna turning them(Yamadutas) away… Yamadutas responded to Lord Krishna by saying “{We are doing our duties on the orders of our master Yamaraj(the god of death) & punishment… this man Ajamila was born in the Brahmin family spent many years of his life breaking all the religious principles causing pain & suffering to innocent people & animals in the life… now it is time to take him to the court of Yamaraj(the lord of death) where he would be tied & punished for his sinful actions}”
On this Lord Krishna promptly replies”{we cannot allow you to take this Soul, Ajamila had already atoned(repaired) for all his sinful actions, in a helpless condition he has chanted the holy name of Lord Narayan. Therefore he has become purified of all his sins.
At the time of his death Ajamila helplessly & loudly chanted the holy name of the Lord that chanting has freed him having to suffer the reactions of his sinful life therefore do not try to take him to your master for punishment}”
Yamadutas replies“{You are of Lord Vishnu himself what you have said is true}”… saying this all Yamadutas departure from there.
Lord Krishna then says to Ajamila”{Ajamila because you have chanted the holy name of the Lord Narayan at the time of your death, you have been relieved of having to suffer the effects of your sinful life we will bless you that you will live few years longer… now take this opportunity to live a pious(pure) life for the remaining time you have left. Remember to glorify the Supreme Lord Vishnu & perfect this human form of life}”
Saying this Lord Krishna disappears…
