According to Shiva Purana, Rudraksha is said to have originated from the eyes of Lord Shiva in the form of tears that landed on earth near Kailash Mountain and formed the Rudraksha tree. This is why the Rudraksha tree grows mostly in the Himalayan regions of Nepal and India. Rudraksha trees also grow in Myanmar, Indonesia (Sumatra and Java), Srilanka, the Philippines, Madagascar, etc.
The Rigveda mentions; Rukh draavayathi iti rudraha (Rukha means ‘grief, distress or anguish’, Draavayathi means ‘to eradicate’, ‘iti’ means ‘that’ or ‘who’, and Rudra means another name of Shiva). It means Shiva who eradicates miseries or grief.
A person who wears all Rudraksha becomes become Me. So one must attempt from all levels to wear the divine Rudraksha - Shiva in the Padma Purana
Rudraksha came to Existence From Devi Bhagwat Puran (11:4) Conversation between Mahadev and Kartikey. Once you start wearing them, you get so much attracted towards their energies that you keep wanting to wear and have more of them. In ayurveda Rudraksha is regarded as medicine.
After the demolition of Tripur lord Shiva, Bramha, Vishnu, Indra, and other gods went to the Himalayas to get rest. Lord Shiva closed his eyes and meditated for some time. When he opened his lotus-shaped eyes tears fell from them on the earth. Those tears are decent over Sitsail hill. Sometime after those tears became rudraksha trees. The fruits that grow on this tree are known as Rudraksha Beads.
A rudraksha is the seed of the Elaeocarpus ganitrus tree and plays an important role in a spiritual seeker's life. Rudraksha beads are made up of 50.031% carbon, 0.95% nitrogen, 17.897% hydrogen, and 30.53% oxygen, and it takes 15 to 16 years to mature. Different types of Rudraksha beads grow on the tree, ranging from 1 to 21 Faces. Among them, 1 to 14 Mukhis are commonly found. They are based on the vertical lines seen running down on the surface. These lines are known as Mukhi (the clefts or furrows on the surface).
Padma Purana, Chapter 57, Sri Bhagavan said, “If a man always wears a Rudraksa with fourteen mouths, permeated with God’s auspicious power, he is always honored and blessed by the demigods due to the greatness of his religious merit.” All Rudraksha is cosmic seed from Eternal Law or Sanatan Dharm. As a flame is covered by smoke and mirror by dirt, so is knowledge covered by desire. One should be wearing Rudraksha even while sleeping, eating, or drinking, meaning that one should wear Rudraksha all the time. So there are no specific rules for wearing a Rudraksha.
Rudraksha wearing is a matter of faith and belief and Lord Shiva’s will for you. Mahadev is the supremely powerful God of Gods and he is associated with the destruction of evil. He is considered very powerful and anything associated with him will display his destructive power that can vanquish negative forces.
In all our 18 texts it is stated that Rudraksha is Paapharta ( destroys sins) and is Moksha-pradayee (bestower of salvation). Thus it destroys past and present negative karmas to ensure that you live a life of bliss.
The Padma Purana states that rudrakshas may be used by Hindus of every denomination. The beauty of the Rudraksha fruit is that it can be worn by all irrespective of the gender or caste. They will even benefit atheists and sinners. Rudraksa beads are used as worshipful aids. These malas are also used in the practice of japa.
Each individual is blessed with immense energy to progress and fulfill his /her life purpose. However due to conditioning by parents, self, society etc., we knowingly/unknowingly hinder/curb its natural flow, thereby creating mind blockages and physical illnesses.

Black, dark brown, white and yellow color of rudraksa is available on which black and white colour is very rare. Rudraksha can be worn on Monday, Thursday, or any auspicious days like Sankranti, Purnima, Amavasya etc. Better to wear in Shukla paksha and check your auspicious choghadiya.
To energize new beads, immerse them in Desi Cow ghee (clarified butter) for 24 hours and then soak them in Cow milk for an additional 24 hours. Wash it with Ganga Jal and wipe the beads with a clean cloth. It should be done every six months. Oil the Rudraksha once a week to prevent it from dehydrating. If you don’t have pure Desi cow milk or ghee in your place, put it in olive oil or seasame oil.
It is a general belief that a Rudraksha bead when placed between two copper coins will rotate slightly either towards the right or the left. This happens due to the physical and magnetic properties of the Rudraksha beads. Fake Rudraksha bead made of wood and impregnated with lead will float in water. Report states that in the last twenty years no Ek Mukhi has been found in Nepal. A round One Mukhi Rudraksha from Nepal is a myth. Rudraksha bead should be placed in boiling water for 20-30 minutes. A sharp discoloration will take place at the joint in case of artificial Rudraksha.
