Question - Gurudev, the intellect only works when you store memories or is it taking out from any memory?
Gurudev - The intellect has this unique ability to connect with not just memory but also mind. That's why it perceives new things. It connects with memory, which is already stored and it connects with consciousness, which is intuitive.
So, the intellect is in the middle - it takes from the outside, it takes from the inside - the past memory and it takes a little bit from somewhere deep within also. That's how intellect can create many new things in the world.
A new poem does not come from memory. It doesn't come only from an impression of an experience, it comes as an intuition. How does a new scientific discovery happen?
R&D specialists should know this, that a discovery happens because the intellect is awake - it is taking information through the senses, it is using the memory and it is utilising the intuitive ability that is deep inside.
When all these three things come together in a magical manner, then “Aaah” an invention happens, for example somebody found the chip and someone made a computer. All these things have come from the grace of the consciousness.
You call it grace because consciousness is magnanimous, enormous, Unfathomable and intuitions all arise from that. So the intuition happened memory came along, perceptual ability was there and intellect was awake.
All the four things together give birth to a new product in the world. Whatever it is a cosmetic or it is a brilliant idea for the stock market, it all happens when these four things happen in rhythm.
Question - Gurudev then is free will vs destiny just making sure at that time when intuitions come, you see the intellect and you act on it? How does free will and destiny play, interplay?
Gurudev - Intellect has a role in the free will. There is free will because of the presence of intellect. If god were to remove the intellect, he would remove free will along with it. That's why animals don't have free will.
Animals are governed by the laws of nature and there are no choices. Choices are present only in the intellect. Choice and free will are two sides of the same coin.
You are given choice which means you are given free will and choices are limited. You don't have unlimited choices. For example, in America, if you go to a garment store your choices are very limited and if you go to a tropical country, like in South America or India, your choices are little more, though not unlimited.
You get more colours there. See how Latino Americans are wearing colourful clothes and here, when you go to American stores you got black, gray, white etc. California is a little different.
