*Chapter 2 - Opening Yourself To The Unknown*
*Day 7*
It is repeated twice - “It is. Let it be. Let it be”. Let the virtues the Dharma be ingrained deep in me, in every cell of my being and get established in me.
This is the prayer. Now the Upanishad begins. When you read this prayer, you may feel, "Oh is it a boot camp"? It says forget about your intellect and just surrender everything and be goody goody.
So, what is this being taught? Are you loosing yourself somewhere? Am I going to loose something?" What is there to loose It's saying shut your intellect and just be emotional, accept everything".
Is that what is being said? No. The Upanisad always encourages the quest the enquiry. They encourage your intellectual brilliance by questioning.
"Kena" means question. Kena Upanisad itself means: What ? Who? Where? When? Why? Before the age of three these questions don't arise at all in the mind.
You are in such a blissful state, but when the intellect starts developing, then "Whhat? Where? Who ? Why? When?" That is when we start asking these questions.
But we have to mature on that. We remain in a teenage for a long time in our life. We don't move beyond that. But these questions are a very important step in our life.
The Upanishad itself, what, what? Are you all here? Come on wake up, wake up, and wake up. What? Just ask yourself “What"? In your mind ask, "What"? Can you do it?"What"? What's happening?
Do you see a shift in consciousness? "What? where? when ? who? Just imagine that you are in a room by yourself and someone bangs on the door suddenly.
What's the word that comes out of you?" What?" Who?!" Do you remember in the night waking up and just saying "What? Who? Is everyone here? What ? Who?
Especially when you don't expect anybody, and suddenly someone drops in, what happens to you? It gives a shock :" What? Who?"
I want you to experience this. I am sure everyone sometime or other in their life had a shock and you just said,"What?" "When?"or "Who?" Do you remember what was the state of consciousness, the mind at that moment?
Those were very valuable the most valuable moments of your life. But we let them slip away from us without observing them, the moments of wonder, the moments of enquiry and those moments of astonishment.
Those moments of inquisitiveness curiosity are very precious. In these moments your chattering mind has stopped and you got a leap from the known to the unknown.
What, when, who, why, how are all steps. It is that diving board to the realm of unknown from known. Reeling in the known you are limited. Opening yourself to the unknown is the path to infinity, path to the unlimited.
