*Chapter 2 - Key Points Of Effective Management*
*Day 2*
Do we really understand the difference between motivation and inspiration? By and large, employees in various enterprises are motivated to perform better by the annual increment.
Sometimes, an additional incentive is given during certain festivals. This is especially true in developing countries. But such approaches are short-lived and have a temporary effect because the motivation
comes from outside.
Inspiration on the other hand, which comes from within, is more effective and long-lasting. When people are inspired in the workplace, they work enthusiastically and do an excellent job.
We have conducted workshops in many organisations around the world, such as the World Bank and Shell Oil and many more. We call this workshop APEX - Achieving Personal Excellence. It has had amazing results.
People who have attended it have developed abundant energy and great enthusiasm. They have re-discovered their inspiration to work with a sense of belongingness, because now they have been taught how to handle stress.
Bangalore in India is called the IT city. I have a different expansion for IT. It is Inner Transformation. Inner motivation and inner transformation comes to people who are inspired to achieve excellence.
So how does one tap into the energy required to achieve such inner transformation? There are four sources of energy - food, sleep, breath and a calm mind.
If you don't believe food is a source of energy, you should fast for 1-2 days and see what happens. The second source of energy is sleep. If we don't sleep well, we can't work well.
The third is our breath, which we have not paid any attention to, because nobody taught us about the importance of breath. And the fourth is a meditative mind, a calm and serene mental state.
