All your senses are captured from every side, including music. An effort was made to dissolve in the Divinity; in the Infinity; in the past. But the human mind is so cunning. It gets used to even that, and finds a sneaky way to escape from every possible block that the enlightened men from the past put there to arrest it! Even there it finds a little hole, and sneaks out, making the whole thing into a concept.
Ashtavakra was very lucky. He simply said, 'लयं व्रज', dissolve. In fact, he didn't even have much of job to do. He simply had to mention one word here and there, and that was it. Janaka started exclaiming that he had got it. He asked what was it that was to be dropped. People tell you to surrender and drop everything; to give everything to them. But Ashtavakra asked what was going to be given? What was going to be surrendered? What was going to be dropped? Janaka had nothing in the first place! The sense of giving up comes when you have the sensor ownership, of possessing it. Ashtavakra asked Janaka to wake up. What did he own? He had nothing to give up. Some people say that they gave up everything (their life, their job, profession) for the sake of serving, for God, and they didn't want anything. Ashtavakra says to get off the illusion. There is nothing to be given up. You have nothing in the first place! Ashtavakra erases this completely!
He says that you are already pure, and you want to purify yourself! It is like saying you are going to wash the sun as though the sun has got dirty! Or saying that a candle flame has become very dirty and that you are going to wash it. Is there any way to clean a flame? This is just an illusion; like a piece of mother of pearl looking like silver. Drop your illusion. लयं व्रज । Dissolve now! No delay. You may feel how it is possible? You can do it.
If you talk more, you may have to be beaten up. This is what Zen masters did, because they got so tired of talking, answering and ordering people. So they told them all to sit and they would come from behind and hit the person who thought too much on the head. Such people were suddenly shocked! It was shock treatment. They must have really been tired of telling people to dissolve! Only people very much caught up in the head (intellectuals) were attracted to Zen meditation. They saw they were always caught up. What was to be done? They would be given a slap. Surprisingly the mind was prepared for even that, if it expects it. And it goes on weaving its web around that. Zen masters did this taking by surprise. It was torturous. They had to sit for several years, ten to twelve years! Ashtavakra didn't have to do that. He simply had to say लयं व्रज , dissolve.
